Watch: Style & Substance with Suzanne Boyd and Joe Mimran

While one decided what story to run on a cover, the other designed clothing to cover a runway. Canadian fashion brand icon Joe Mimran (Alfred Sung, Club Monaco, Joe Fresh) and current Zoomer and former Flare Editor-In-Chief Suzanne Boyd shared personal stories and anecdotes highlighting Mimran’s contribution to the past, present, and future of fashion and brand marketing in Toronto and Canada as part of our recent Discounted Histories exhibit.

Joe Mimran is a retail, fashion, and business pioneer who has helped build some of Canada’s most recognized apparel and lifestyle brands – Joe Fresh, Club Monaco, Pink Tartan, Alfred Sung, and Caban. From 2015 to 2018 Joe also starred as a Dragon on CBC’s hit show Dragons Den. He is currently Chairman of Gibraltar & Co, a venture capital firm in Toronto. Through his consulting firms, JM+A and NYBS, provides design and consulting services to major retailers such as Kroger in the US and Staples in the US and Canada. (Source)

Suzanne Boyd serves as the editor-in-chief of everythingzoomer.com and is the founding Editor-in-Chief of Zoomer Magazine. Boyd is also on the Executive Management Team of ZoomerMedia Ltd. Prior to her role at Zoomer, Ms. Boyd was named Editor-in-Chief of Suede magazine, the acclaimed fashion-forward culture source launched by Time Inc., in partnership with Essence Communications Partners.

On top of Style & Substance, feel free to check out our recording of Tkarón:to & Turtle Island: The Remarkable Indigenous Trade Networks, featuring Anishinaabe artist and OCAD Associate Professor Bonnie Devine, who spoke about about the significance of land and water to Indigenous nations, the complex trade networks that existed, and the influence of colonial rule.
