The Quiet Immigrant Project reflects and recognizes the living narratives of post-WW2 Italian immigrant women. This multifaceted, multimedia, and multilayered legacy piece is created with purpose and grace, honouring the generation of ‘journeywomen’ – the young, single, the married or by proxy, the widowed, poor or skilled, the adventurer, the vulnerable, or loyal follower – all being dynamically explored. The quest and vision is to offer a fully interactive and viscerally charged exhibit, whereby the ‘donne of immigrazione’ could see themselves alongside those they care(d) about and those who care for and love them. The exhibit experience calls for installation, stories, artifacts and keepsakes, letters full of love, and a living art piece for public participation, emphasizing and sharing the essence of an Italian community experience. The Quiet Immigrant Project is a conduit; the collector of matriarchal memories where doors are opened, and roots are not lost – to make clear what could and should lie ahead. ‘Stories are the proof of life’…sharing is necessary.
