Today’s “Toronto sound” refers to music produced by artists like Drake and The Weeknd, whereas decades ago the term meant rock, folk, and country. What changed? A large and sustained influx of immigrants from the West Indies and African diaspora, who brought reggae, soca, calypso and more deep into Toronto’s soul. Join award-winning singer, writer, and broadcaster Jemeni and producer DJ Agile as they spin records with special guests and discuss how these incoming sounds continue to shape Toronto’s sonic identity.
