TEST PROGRAM / Red Pocket Recipes - Meegan Lim

Red Pocket Recipes - Meegan Lim

Throughout quarantine, I was lucky to get to know my mom more and the foods she would eat growing up in Sandakan, Malaysia. We spent time together creating a collection of her famous recipes and I illustrated it as a sharable pocket zine that recalls the red pockets (hong baos) family members would gift us during celebratory dinners.

Now everyone always asks what the family secret to her cooking is – and well, it is her. We can’t guarantee that these recipes turn out exactly like hers because she is what makes them special. And I am sure that goes for everyone’s own family cooking and traditions!

Meegan Lim (b. 1999, Brampton, Ontario) is a multi-disciplinary artist and Illustrator based in Toronto, Canada. She is working to receive her Bachelor of Design with a major in Illustration, and minor in Entrepreneurship & Social Innovation. By synthesizing imagery from both western and eastern iconography, Lim’s illustration work deconstructs notions of cultural identity and mental health with her detailed applications of colour and symbolism.
