TEST PROGRAM / Maneesa Veeravel

Maneesa Veeravel

I’d love to submit a poem I wrote, recorded and edited with visuals of water. This is one of a few art projects that helped me process and heal while I was living in Vancouver. I edited the videos of water I’ve collected together after I moved back “home” to Scarborough. My other art pieces are also a reflection of my sense of belonging at the moment with so much uncertainty and transitions.

ARTIST BIO

My name is Maneesa and I am a creative residing on the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Wendat, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. As a Tamil, genderqueer survivor, my work reflects ancestral history, trauma and healing as it pertains to home and belonging. I just graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelors in Communications, Art and Technology, minor in Sociology and Certificate of Social Justice. I have published and performed poetry, screened short films, displayed soundscapes, exhibited my art, facilitated workshops and more. I really value resource sharing, creative expression and mindful experiences like, hiking, painting, kneading, and lying on flat surfaces or critically consuming commodities. At the moment I am on the emerging artist roster with Vibe Arts and will be beginning a residency with Sketch TO if all things work out remote.
