The Beginning of Distortion, 18” x 24”, original Acrylic Painting on premium artist canvas panel.
This scene takes place in The Gooderham Building, Toronto. It shows the scenery of distorted buildings with a sunset for the background. The distortion represents the year 2020, taking unexpected turns from the coronavirus, political upheavals, and natural disasters. Intensity of the red is used to amplify an ominous feeling we mostly face during times of uncertainty.
ARTIST BIO
I am Angelica Candido, I moved to Canada when I was 3 from Philippines and am now in the process of obtaining a bachelor’s degree for Drawing and Painting at OCAD University. After graduating from George Brown’s Art and Design Foundation program, I gained art experience abroad from Istanbul, Turkey where I was fortunate enough to connect with Mahir Guven, a renowned artist that helped me expand my art skills. I believe that experiencing a new country can make one think more broadly about the world they live in, gives a great opportunity to connect to more people, and to learn about their culture. These experiences derives my source of inspiration when it comes to creating my art. I believe that paintings should capture part of the soul of an individual which is the characteristic that makes art a unique individual experience. It is the process of knowing oneself more deeply, the self-expression that comes with art itself, and the message one can convey through works of art.
