TAMIL STUDENTS PROTEST OUTSIDE THE TORONTO DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

On May 9, 2009, Tamil protestors gathered at Queen’s Park legislature lawn to protest yet another aggressive military offensive by the Sri Lankan Army resulting in what the United Nations stated as a “bloodbath”. Some members of the community also began hunger strikes as a form of protest. Many also took to Yonge Street, College Street, Queen Street and University Avenue for a march. Similar to January 30th and March 16th, Tamil protestors formed a human chain throughout the downtown core.
