MUSEUM OF TORONTO APPOINTS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Heidi Reitmaier Joins Museum of Toronto as Executive Director to Lead Next Phase of Development

It gives me great pleasure to share with you that Heidi Reitmaier will join the Museum of Toronto as Executive Director in September 2021.

Heidi Reitmaier

During the course of her career, Heidi has held senior leadership roles in some the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Tate Museum in London, the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Toronto.

As Museum of Toronto enters a new phase of development and growth, Heidi’s deep experience in the museum sector, combined with our committed team of professionals, will help Museum of Toronto continue to innovate and expand our role as Toronto’s history museum. From our many conversations, I know that she is excited to make a difference in our city, and I am confident that her experience, ambition and passion for Toronto will be a catalyst for Museum of Toronto to grow and expand its influence. I am impressed by her wealth of experience in community engagement and change management.

“I am absolutely thrilled with the opportunity to lead such a well-respected, unique and innovative cultural institution in a world-class city like Toronto,” said Heidi Reitmaier. “I look forward to bringing all my experience in the museum sector to strengthen our partnerships and expand our programming, alongside a highly dedicated and passionate team.”

Heidi replaces Paula Hughes, who has served as Interim Executive Director after the departure of Jeremy Diamond in December 2020. I would like to thank Paula for stepping in as interim Executive Director for the past 10 months, as well as our committed staff and Board of Directors for their many contributions during a time of unprecedented change and adaptation.

Welcome Heidi! More to come in September!

Sincerely,

Diane Blake, Board Chair, Museum of Toronto
