COMPANY BACKGROUND

Myseum of Toronto is not your traditional museum. A not-for-profit organization founded in 2015 by a group of private citizens who are passionate about commemorating Toronto’s history, Myseum asks people to come to multiple locations across the city to explore art, culture, and history. Our unconventional museum model delivers free and accessible programs and exhibits to all corners of the city – both IRL and online.

In five short years, Myseum has become one of the most respected leaders in the city in the areas of diverse storytelling, both in the subjects we cover and audiences we serve with IRL exhibits, festivals events and tours that are held throughout the year across the city. We also create original digital content on web and social platforms that focus on the unknown, untold and under-represented stories of the city with a present and future lens.

The next exciting phase of our development is to leverage this footprint we have in the city – and the museum sector – to develop and implement a robust digital strategy that will reach more people, impact new audiences and shape the way Torontonians look at their city. This strategy must be fully integrated into the overall strategic-planning process for leadership commitment, resource allocation and execution.

Project proposals can range from medium-small exhibitions to events such as walking tours, workshops, panel discussions and lectures to public programs, exhibition tours, community celebrations, interactive experiences and performances. We prioritize participatory, co-created projects and encourage applicants to create collaborative partnerships that help them co-create their projects.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for a ‘show runner’, someone to elevate Myseum’s storytelling by developing a transformative digital experience based on research from trends and best practices by leading institutions inside and outside of the museum sector.

A seasoned Project Manager, the Digital Officer will engage leading edge digital artists, design firms and digital media artists distributors to collaborate with Myseum to produce a digital direction that is ready to launch by the end of the contract.

The Digital Officer is a strong communicator who will work closely with Myseum’s departments – Marketing and Programming – and serve as an intermediary between all other teams and functions in the rollout of digital initiatives and capabilities. They need to tap into the deep knowledge each staff member has of Myseum and its operations. Our team has a complex problem-solving, emotional intelligence, leadership and social influence skills with a passion for service orientation with our community partners that is critical to the success of our digital strategy.

These efforts will have to align with the current deliverables of an existing digital program called ‘Toronto Stories’, a multimedia exhibit that will share stories and voices that explore the impact that Black, Indigenous, People of Colour, LGBTQ2+ and newcomer communities are having on the social fabric on the city. The program deliverables include a microsite, podcast series and online exhibitions.

The candidate/agency will report to the CEO to develop Myseum’s digital strategy and identify how to best implement this vision. The Myseum board of directors will be engaged throughout the process and provide support where needed.

The initial contract is for 6 months with possibility of extension.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE

To develop and implement a robust digital strategy that will reach more people, impact new audiences and shape the way Torontonians look at their city. This strategy must be fully integrated into the overall strategic-planning process for leadership commitment, resource allocation and execution.

In addition to developing the digital strategy, the Digital Officer will be responsible for:

  • Producing a podcast series that tells the untold and underrepresented narratives of Toronto
  • Direct and produce a series of videos in line with the digital strategy
  • Oversee the ongoing development of the Myseum website
  • Working with the Programming team to curate a series of digital exhibits

The goals of this project include:

  • Create value by improving audience engagement and loyalty
  • Driving new revenues
  • Achieving new efficiencies
  • Measuring Myseum’s KPIs with the goal of demonstrating the positive impact from these projects.

To reach these goals, Myseum of Toronto is now accepting bids in response to this Request for Proposal.

EVALUATION METRICS

Myseum of Toronto will evaluate applicants and proposals based on the following criteria:

  • Previous experience/past performance history.
  • Samples and/or case studies from previous projects.
  • Experience and technical expertise.
  • Responsiveness and answers to questions from Myseum both prior to and during the interview process
  • Applicants must meet all 4 metrics in the evaluation section and should include samples and references with their proposal.
